Parish Ministries

We have many ministries at our parish to help you in your journey of faith. Please see our ministries with descriptions below below. If you would like more info, see our latest bulletin.

Bible Study

This is a monthly deep dive into the scriptures. The book we are currently exploring is the Gospel of John, known as the Spiritual Gospel due to its emphasis on Christ’s divinity. Come explore the scriptures with us as we examine the historical place of the fourth Gospel, the reasons for its writing, and work to understand the many teachings of Jesus presented in this incredibly rich Gospel. This study is particularly focused on encountering our Lord in the scriptures and equipping those that learn with the tools needed to properly interpret and understand what is being written. The Bible Study group meets in the Parish Hall on the first Thursday of every month. To learn more, see our parish calendar or contact bgeist@oloskc.org to get on the email list, where you will be given updates and reading plans.

Catholic Movie Night

This is a monthly or bi-monthly event where we gather to watch a famous movie that is well known for its portrayal of Catholicism and Catholic themes. A short discussion will follow. This event is a ministry of the Legion of Mary.

Email Prayer Chain

The parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows have formed an email prayer chain for those that are in need of prayers. If you would like to request prayers, please email our prayer chain at AnnMarie@oloskc.org.  If you would like to join the prayer chain to pray for these intentions, please send an email request to be added to the list.

Fellowship Sunday

Our Fellowship Sunday team helps to organize quarterly potlucks, parties, and parish get-togethers to help foster the community life of our parish. Please contact

The Knights of Columbus– Council #2457

Our Knights of Columbus Council #2457 meets in the Parish Hall on the first Wednesdays beginning with recitation of the Rosary at 6:30pm.  We are also establishing a Women’s Auxiliary to help support the Knights’ charitable works both practically and spiritually.  Please contact jgapileggi@gmail.com for more information.

The Legion of Mary– Our Lady of Kibeho Praesidium

The Legion of Mary is a Marian group that meets weekly on Mondays at 6pm. Started in 1921 in Dublin, Ireland, the Legion of Mary is the world’s largest lay apostolate, focusing on fostering a deeper devotion to Mary through the Total Consecration taught by St. Louis de Montfort as well as bringing Jesus to the world by practicing the spiritual works of mercy and committing to works of evangelization. Active members and auxiliary (praying) members are always needed. This group collaborates with parishioners of our sister parish St. Monica Catholic Church. Visitors are always welcome. Contact bgeist@oloskc.org for more information.

Rediscover Your Faith

This is an adult catechesis program meant to continue the intellectual and faith formation of our parishioners. At each session, a special topic will be explored. Attendees are encouraged to suggest topics for future sessions. For more information, please contact bgeist@oloskc.org for more info.

Social Ministry

The parish Social Outreach ministry will be taking monthly donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, hygiene products, diapers, and laundry items for donation to the food pantry at St. Monica’s. Our collections take place on the second weekend of each month.  You can leave your items in the back of the church.  If you forget, you can always bring the items later. The group also volunteers once a month at various charities in the city.  If you would like to help with the social outreach ministry, please contact Bill Capotosto at bcapotosto@gmail.com.
