Fr. Randolph Sly - Pastor
Reverend Randolph Sly is a Catholic priest with the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, currently serving as Pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and President of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School in Lee's Summit. You will also find him at St. Therese (North) Catholic Church, where is serves part-time as an Associate Pastor. Fr. Sly is also a writer, teacher and conference speaker.
Raised in The Episcopal Church, Fr. Sly has spent over thirty years in parish and denominational ministry, serving churches in Michigan, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Virginia. He first served as a pastor as well as a media and communications specialist in the Wesleyan Methodist Church. He then returned to his Anglican roots with one of the Anglican denominations, where he was ordained a priest, later consecrated a bishop and then served as an Archbishop.
In November 2006, he resigned his faculties and, along with his wife, Sandy, was received into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. At that time, he worked as a freelance writer and marketing communications consultant was well as serving as Associate Editor/Senior Writer for Catholic Online (www.catholic.org). Later, with further theological formation and being granted permission for ordination by Pope Benedict XVI, he was ordained a Catholic priest in June of 2012 with the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, the national jurisdiction for former Anglicans established by Pope Benedict XVI.
During his more than three decades of ministry, he has been a popular speaker for churches and Christian organizations, both nationally and internationally, in the areas of spiritual formation, Biblical studies, pro-life, marriage and family, worship and liturgy, pastoral ministry, leadership development and communications.
Fr. Sly is a graduate of Spring Arbor University (B.A.), Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div. with honors), and pursued Ph.D. studies in Education at Kansas State University. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity Degree (Honoris Causa) by Holy Trinity Theological College and Seminary. Prior to his call to ministry, he worked in radio as a disk jockey and broadcast journalist, as well as in television broadcasting and in multimedia.
Continuously involved in the field of communications and the media, he has produced radio, TV, film, video, and multi-image presentations for many national Christian and secular organizations. Fr. Sly is also a published author, having written for many online news organizations and national periodicals, as well as serving as the major contributing editor and author for the multi-volume series The Complete Library of Christian Worship by Robert Webber. Earlier in life, he was named three times for “Outstanding Young Men of America,” and has appeared in “Who’s Who in Religion,” along with “Who’s Who.”
Fr. Sly and his wife, Sandy, have three grown children: Dena, Deborah, and David, all of whom are married, along with eight grandchildren. They live in Kansas City, MO.
